With remote working here to stay and growing initiatives around improving culture, this may give people something to relate to when they find themselves in the same situation. The transformation my life has undergone over the past months due to this change in my working culture has reflected positively on my outlook, myself and on my family and I look forward to continuing my stay at a company so actively invested in this.

As a true noob to this world, upon joining Promaton, I found myself going through a series of changes and adaptations, which I have chosen to split into stages of emotions and examples. The team is unified and thrives together via a strong trust and output-based culture, while each member gets to address it on their own time, literally.Ĭoming from a work path that either entailed classic 9–5 office hours or hectic overnight and weekend clinical shifts, I was totally new and quite frankly oblivious to the growing concept of ‘people first’ culture, asynchronous communication and really even the concept of remote working, as created by some of the innovative tech companies in this field. In practice, this involves tools like Slack, in which memos and messages overtake meetings and calls, and sharing of information can be easily made public or on a need-to-know basis. This means that synchronous becomes asynchronous, which means that communication takes center stage and is the essential element to get right. By cultivating and instilling a ‘people first’ culture, some companies have integrated work with their teams’ lives, no matter where they are around the globe or how they choose to spend the hours of their days or nights. It’s one thing to be away from an office and another to be able to live life in the way that really truly works best for you. But what if I told you there’s so much more to true remote work? It’s indeed great to eliminate the daily commute and gain some time in the mornings and evenings, and so convenient to be able to take those online calls while keeping the pyjama pants on. It also means that the routine will generally remain the same and meetings and activities will, on most occasions, take place in a synchronous manner, as always, and as in the pre-Covid era. This, to most people (myself included), means simply to work away from the physical office or official work location. Nowadays it seems as though most people have worked or are still working remotely, due to the onset of the pandemic.
